Leopardized!

June 9, 2009 posted by indiatime |

India’s women make strides‘, reads a newspaper headline today, citing India’s uniqueness in choosing women as its president, for the leadership of the ruling party, and now for the speakership of the house.

But no other news could have better highlighted Indian women’s power than of Rangawati Velip of Goa, who, yesterday, trapped a wild leopard inside her house. No, it’s not a metaphor and it wasn’t her husband. It was a real life wild leopard as those from the jungles.

Rangawati was attacked by the animal when she went to fetch a pail of water outside her house. The animal came down from nowhere and broke her right eye, and leapt into the house. Rangawati, although tumbling from the attack and seriously injured, still got up and quickly locked the house from outside, trapping the evil leopard inside. She then cried for help, waiting until help arrived.

The forest ministry has now awarded her a sum of Rs 50,000 under the wildlife act and was mulling over additional rewards for bravery. The officials were confounded when they found injuries on the leopard as well, though they didn’t attribute those to the leopard’s fight with Rangawati.

If a 45-year woman villager can pretty much beat the crap out of and trap a wild leopard, it won’t be a wild guess then to predict that all these top women in Indian politics will easily trap and leash the wild male parliamentarians from India’s political jungle. With a woman speaker, a woman president, and a woman ruling the ruling party, the male populus in Indian politics seems to be totally leopardized!

But… do you think the three great women could have achieved the same feat as Rangawati under similar circumstances? Also, perhaps it would be more correct to say that the male populus in Indian politics has been totally feminized !
