Anand Jon’s fate rests with the jury

November 3, 2008 posted by indiatime |

Indian fashion designer Anand Jon’s serial rape trial is now with the jury. Last Friday, Anand’s lawyers rested after a spirited defense of their client, which invariably included bashing the testimony of Anand’s 9 alleged victims along with the classic ‘they invited what happened to them’ defense.

Whereas the prosecutors have painted Mr. Anand as a ’sexual predator who exploited, humiliated and degraded Hollywood wannabes, his defense painted his accusers of being vengeful liars who made up stories about the famous fashion designer. One of the issues the jury will tackle with is the strange behavior of the 9 accusers some of whom stayed in contact with him after the alleged incidents and some of whom had apparently sent graphic emails to him.

Indian government has asked the authorities to release any exculpatory evidence available that may assist in setting the Indian designer free. That request came from Susmita Thomas, the Indian consul general in San Francisco. None of Jon’s accusers is of Indian origin, freeing the Indian government of any dilemma that may have arisen. But the Indian government has stressed that it does not wish to interfere in the judicial process. Which means it will not intervene or Jon’s behalf if he is found guilty by the jury who will be out with their verdict any time within the next few days.

It is very unfortunate that indian government is not putting pressure on the Us government to get the designer released.I am not saying that he is not guilty but in case he is not then it is a disater on behalf of indian government.
