Salman Khan’s Ganesh-worship is rewarded with a fatwa
September 21, 2007 posted by indiatime |
Salman Khan attended Lord Ganesh’s worship in Mumbai the other day, and now a muslim mullah has issued a fatwa against him, saying that Salman has insulted Islam by performing idol-worship. He has been ordered to read Kalmas, the six edicts of Islam.
The basic message in the kalmas is that there is none worthy of worship except God (4th kalma), and the Muslim God is the only God (6th kalma). (Believe it or not, that message sounds a lot like the second of Christianity’s 10 commandments - Thou shalt worship no other god).
Salman Khan’s father, famous scriptwriter Salim Khan rightly lashed out against the muslim cleric, saying that his is a cosmopolitan family where people from different faiths live under one roof. Salim Khan is right on. There is a majority of a moderate group of muslims in India who for last several centuries, have helped make India a melting pot. The moderate group of muslims is not only doing better economically, but have contributed most to the arts and culture as well. And there is a fringe group of unsatisfied muslims who have never considered themselves a part of this nation’s fabric. These fringe-groups are constantly at odds with the majority, and keep resorting to fatwas, hooliganism, and terrorism.
The problem is that these fringe groups and their followers vote banks that pressurise political and the judicial system into a discriminatory mode. Hopefully, Salman Khan’s simple act of faith will go a long way in legitimizing a secular sentiment. I have said it before and I have said it often, that people like Salman Khan can do a heck of a lot more for India by projecting a positive, fearless, and a proud image of a secular nation. That would be a fair atonement for all the bad things he has done in his past.

Being Indian I would like all Indian to support what is right and not to what is wrong.
Here as mentioned above Salman has done something against his religion. And this should be condemn taking the advantage of the situation we should not go against Islams basics, I fell Salman did something wrong and his father is going ahead of him and doing more harm to his religion.
Salman my friend just accept your mistake and say the kalma - Okay! you know what I`m sayin - Just Chill Man! - M Khan
okay you know what this article is wierd first of all worshipping another relious idol has nothing to do with idiot terriots out there so please stop attacking islam everytime your F*cking a**es gets a chance quit it i am a muslim and one thing i know for sure is that there is no way it is accepted to worship any1 but allah now that doesnt mean i hate other religions i have respect for every1 but i wont go do what salman did thats all and for the person who wrote this article there is alot of similarity between islam and christianity so what the heck was your point there
overall all im saying is that was a stupid thing for salman to do you know make up your mind you are either muslim, hindu, christain or something but you should choose one for GODS SAKE!!
SOFIA don’t impose YOUR definition of islam on other people. i’m sure you don’t follow ALL of islam’s edicts. do you pray five times a day every day? if not and some fanatic called you unislamic and insulting islam then what would you say to that fanatic. muslims need to evolve and allow people to think freely and believe what they want to believe. salman is free to do what ever he wishes in a free open society like india.
if you want to live in a fundamentalist islamic state then go to pakistan!
[...] Salman Khan’s Ganesh-worship is rewarded with a fatwa [...]
im from britain and we live in a multicultral society muslims get a name like islamic extremist because of people like this cleric we all have to live with with people of different faiths and everyone has their own definitions of Islam and Salu followed his. I dont think that salu has insulted islam. Before critising him everyone should look at themselves here in britain many muslims attend christmas and diwali celebrations why shouldnt he. Just cos his famous has a life to live to, people forget Salu is human too. GOOD ON YOU SALU!
A stupid article written by a stupid writer about a stupid actor. Most Indian actors actions portray them to be atheists who play games with religion.
India is a secular nation? Is that why the Hindi terrorists responsible for Gujurat mass murders are free today? Spare me.
Add the stupidity of the fatwa-issuers to that list then - the idiots who subvert a religion, threaten the lives of moderates and even women practising their own religion
wot made salman khan go to the place wen u r a muslim this is against the religion did he nt notice
i think that if you say that you are muslim then you worship god like real muslim you don’t make films with dirty scence or any thing like that and if you do thows things then don’t say that you are muslim because u throw durt on that religion and do and say thing’s that is not that religion u caind of make u on religion on taht way

Most of the present Bollywood Muslims don’t understand Islam. It is not merely a religion but a complete way of life and has some basic principles which have to b earnestly followed if a person has to remain a Muslim. Charity (czakat) is one of its 5 basic principles and Allah dosen’t love misers.We cannot appeal to the gods of other faiths bcoz God is one and Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings b upon him) is his prophet and we have to follow his footsteps which are the ideals for a happy and prosperous life on this planet and greatly for that everlasting life when all will b judged by Allah subhanutala on the day of judgement. What Salman Khan does or believes in is not is not our business but he should detest from practising un islamic beliefs. The whole talk of a cosmopolitan belief and worshipping gods of all creeds is a sheer nonsense and Allah dosen’t like it.
the so called Muslim intellectuals have a shoddy view of Islam and those belonging to bollywood are no exceptions. Islam is a way of life and not a merely religion with certain rituals and festivals. In the holy Qu’ran Allah ta’ala says that I’ve created human beings only for my reverence and worship. Islam prohibits all evilpractises like- gambling, drinking,illicit sex (zina)and also usury. It has set the teachings of Allah’s last messenger- Muhammad (may Allah’s peace and blessings b upon him)as example for a healthy and pious life and hence we cannot turn to a Ganesha, krishna or any other for our wishes as Allah is one and He begotteth none nor He himself by anyone. The world today is caught in the crises of shameful and evil practices and Islam only gives a solution. We will die one day and will be accountable to Allah on the day of Judgement for all our deeds and Salman Khan should bear this in mind. We also believe that allah had sent his messengers to every race or tribe and those who lived their lives according to the teachings of His messengers shall have their reward from allah on the last day. And as for jihad the word is grossly misused. The greatest jihad in the sight of Allah is the one when U have control on your selfish and unnecessary desires.
salim is wrong fully salman is great coz i like salman but i will just sugest to sallu don’do any thing wrong & appose issalam i will dua to allha u help him u don’d have drink

yes,the fatwa is a wrong thing,the so called mullah is not against hinduism, but salu should understand the word ’shirk’,portraying the image of god allmighty, any one who is having a little common sense should understand that a man made idol,wont know what is inside in it(once a thief made a big ganesh idol and inside the tummy was filled with full of stolen materials ….If ganesh was not even able to save his own head(story of parvathi’s bath and lord shiva beheaded ganesh), how can he protect me…or i don’t need any protection…but why you are disturbing the rhythm of sea,by polluting it which has allready been polluted and rising the very level and one day all the mumbai will be submerged under the water….
salman’z family has a mixture of different faiths itz not bad 2 celebrate it with his family but we havn’t seen salman prayin’ in mosque or celebratin’ eid
Great step by Salman. Faith is something so PERSONAL! NO RELIGIOUS Clerk can dictate a person in what to believe or not to believe. IT would be a great service to SECULARISM VALUES if the moderate muslims in India would follow SALSMAN’s example.
Salman, I m a Muslim but nonetheless I also celebrate festivals like Holi and Diwali, so its not a big deal but remember the rules of Islam. By the way I had seen Salman in many mosques and celebrating eid so don’t say that he is not keeping up with Islam!!!
So a moderate Muslim is one who worships an idol (ie becomes a non-Muslim) and an extermist is one who doesnt?
Unbelievable
The comments from Muslims on this board points to why the Muslim world is in crisis today. You guys should chill a bit - if he is not a “practising” Muslim, it is his choice.
For Zoheb Hassan - if you have had any rational education, you would know: there is no absolute holy book. God did not read it out to the prophet and the book did not come out in a single edition. So the “way of life” thing is bullshit - it was laid out in 7th century tribal Arabia.
You choose to take lessons from the holy book. Some others will choose other lessons.
And if you do not know how to be and let be, pretty soon you will be decimated. America does not have the power to decimate those it does not like. If America does not, I am sure the whole of the Muslim world - at this point of history - surely does not.
It is not the fault of Salman Khan, it has to be his parents who did not explain to him the true essence of oneness of God,
here is the reminder for all those like them, may Allah guide them and all.
Surah 112. The Unity, Sincerity, Oneness Of Allah
1. Say: He is Allah, the One and Only;
2. Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
3. He begetteth not, nor is He begotten;
4. And there is none like unto Him.

salma khan will have to obay the fatwa.Because kalmas is that there is none worthy of worship except God.
Assalam Alaikum Salman Bhai.The Arabic word ‘Islam’ simply means ’submission’, and derives from a word meaning ‘peace’. In a religious context it means complete submission to the will of God and Salman bhai has really insulted Islam by performing idol worship.
Salman Bhai as a muslim I will suggest you that please ask Allah for forgiveness, the thing which you have done that was totally wrong that is something called as “Shirk” which Allah will not forgive until you ask him for forgiveness.
Still you have a time for the same, so go ahead and do that and please ensure have are not commiting this “Shirk” in a future ahead.
ALLAH is one and no one after him whome people can worship.
Regards,
Taufique Shaikh
