Come clean Tata memorial people…

June 21, 2007 posted by indiatime |

A court in Mumbai today acquitted Mohammad Feroz Khan, the sole accused in the Tata memorial rape case. His DNA did not match the DNA of the fetus born to the 14-year old who Mr Khan was accused of raping. Now the second victim pf the crime, her child, has spoken from the grave.

Two months ago, the 14-year old terminal cancer patient had accused an unnamed staff member from Tata Memorial Hosipital, of raping and impregnating her as she lay sedated during and motionless during her treatment session at that hospital.

With a few days of the accusations surfacing, The medical director of the Tata Memorial said in a press conference that it was ‘impossible’ that such a crime could be committed within the Hospital or by any of its staff members. The hospital authorities quickly influenced the police enough to arrest Mr. Khan, a neighbor of the victim who was swiftly coerced into confessing to a crime he obviously had nothing to do with.

In my post on April 15th, I wrote about the importance of DNA results and why the police and the hospital authorities were premature and wrong in commenting on the accusations before any DNA tests were looked at.

Now Tata memorial needs to correct its mistake and make available the DNA samples of the staff that the 14-year old muslim girl had initially accused. That the girl’s family doesn’t have any political or economic clout should not be a hindrance to the due diligence in matters of justice and police investigations. Tata Memorial’s management has so far managed to skirt and sidestep the issue with press conferences and news reports maligning innocent bystanders in the process. Now, Tata memorial Hospital needs to proactively show this country that it is not above the law and it will not compromise and manipulate the justice system with its power and might.

The Mumbai police along with Tata memorial, have shown inexcusable callousness and insouciance in this matter. If the Tata memorial still wants to be known as a medical facility of international repute, and if Mumbai police still wants to be known as one of India’s finest, they need to come clean and deal fairly with the underage rape victim who lost everything within the walls of this so-called reputed hospital. Truly, shame on them if they cannot offer justice to a terminally ill 14-year olf teenager who was violated under their watch.

Madur, I agree with the fake Bollywood acting part. I think the rest of your comment is coming out of some deep hatred towards India for reasons known to you alone.

The patient abuse story is important because it happened in one of India’s most reputed hospitals, and the authorities tried to suppress the story. I do know a thing or two about medicine and I can assure you that this is not a commn occurence by any measures. Having said that, even a single such occurrence is reason enough to raise hell about it.

As for matters of worship, every faith has its idiosyncracies. Hinduism is the oldest of them all, and has a lot of things (why just cows and rivers) that people from other faith might find amusing. It’s an eco-friendlier faith founded by an ancient arcadian civilisation.

If your anger towards India has to do with some Indians cheating you in matters of business, you will need to take it to the local law enforcement. :)
